New Delhi : India Friday strongly reacted to the Pakistan foreign ministry expressing “deep regret” on the use of force on demonstrators in Srinagar last Sunday, and asked it to stop interfering in India’s internal affairs and “vitiating the atmosphere”.
On July 4, Hurriyat Conference leader Shabbhir Shah and 14 others were injured in a cane charge by the police on demonstrators celebrating their ‘victory’ after the transfer of forestland to the Amarnath Yatra Shrine Board was revoked by the state government.
The next day, the Pakistan foreign office spokesperson expressed “deep regret” on the cane charge and added his concern on “recent instances of human rights violations in Indian Occupied Kashmir”. He stressed the “need to create an enabling environment for the success of the peace process between Pakistan and India and the resolution of the Kashmir dispute”.
On Friday, external affairs ministry spokesperson Navtej Sarna said India had taken note of Pakistan “commenting gratuitously” on the Srinagar demonstration.
“The statement constitutes gross interference in the internal affairs of India. GOP (government of Pakistan) spokesmen should refrain from vitiating the atmosphere by such remarks,” said Sarna.
