Kabul : Nine NATO soldiers died and 15 were wounded by Afghan rebels in Kunar province, all of them US troops, confirmed the media Monday.
That Pentagon contingent, attached to the International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF), was in the advanced post bordering with Pakistan when the rebels attacked them in Dara I Pech district, noted the Afghan news agency(PAN).
The afghan rebels launched an attack with assault riffles, machine guns,rockets and mortar fire while soldiers from the USand the Afghan army responded with automatic rifles, mortar, artillery and were backed by
helicopter gunships.
Other 15 US soldiers and four more from the Afghan army were also wounded in the fight, which lasted from dawn to dusk.
The nine US deaths added to 133 invading troops deaths in Afghanistan since last January, according to statistics released in Kabul.
