Tehran : Mount Damavand was registered on the national heritage list as the first natural monument in the country on Saturday.
Mount Damavand is the highest peak in Iran with an altitude of about 5,628m.
It is an inactive volcanic mountain which was active in the Quaternary Period.
Located in the middle Alborz Range, it is the highest peak in the Middle East and the highest volcano in all of Asia.
Damavand peak is covered by snow throughout the year making it an important ski resort of Iran.
The most important thermal springs in Damavand are Ask and Larijan.
