JMM to support UPA in trust vote

By IANS,

New Delhi : After keeping political parties guessing for days on which way he would go, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Shibu Soren Sunday finally announced his party’s support to the Manmohan Singh-led government in Tuesday’s crucial trust vote in the Lok Sabha.

The JMM has five MPs in the Lok Sabha. Party chief Soren announced his support after an hour-long meeting with Congress president and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi at her 10 Janpath residence here.

“We have decided to vote for the UPA. We have been supporting it earlier also. This is a final decision taken after discussions with our MPs,” Soren told reporters here.

But Soren, who is said to have bargained hard with the Congress to extend support to the UPA ahead of Tuesday’s trust vote, said that two ministerial berths would come his party’s way. However, he did not exactly spell out what he had got.

“I will not tell you what I have got. That only I should know. We will do our politics from the state (Jharkhand) and at the centre,” Soren said. He has reportedly bargained for deputy chief ministership in Jharkhand for his son.
