Ahmedabad : The police detained 25 illegal immigrants of Bangladesh here during a two-day operation that ended Saturday night, officials said Sunday.
The officials are interrogating the detainees, arrested from Chandola Lake area, about the routes they took to reach here, their antecedents and their activities in India.
According to the officials, police formed special teams after a tip-off about some Bangladeshi groups living illegally within the city.
“Our scrutiny revealed that many of the inhabitants at Bangali Vaas, Siyasatnagar and Nawabnagar were outsiders,” said deputy commissioner of police A.V. Vasava. These people were living in ghettos thus setting themselves apart from the locals.
“They have a network in major cities across the state. They work as non-skilled workers in small units,” said Vasava.
