“This agreement is expected to enhance the level of our economic engagements with the SAARC countries by envisaging regional cooperation on standards, quality control and legal metrology among SAARC countries,” Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters after a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

In order to facilitate trade in the region, India proposed the establishment of a Regional Standards Body and Legal Metrology Forum two years ago at the 13th SAARC summit in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
