A day after blasts, live bomb defused in Banglore

Banglore : A live bomb which was placed near a shopping mall in the upmarket Koramangala area here on Saturday was defused by a bomb disposal squad, a day after a series of low-intensity blasts shook the city.

The squad rushed to the spot and de-activated the explosive device, City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said.

Police swung into action after word spread that a “bucket-shaped” object was kept Saturday morning on the footpath near ‘Forum Mall’ by an unidentified man in his mid-20s and wearing a red T-shirt. He reportedly fled the scene after placing it.

Bomb experts of the National Security Guards along with bomb disposal squad of the state immediately rushed to the spot. It was found that the “bucket-shaped” object contained a micro-chip, detonators and explosives with oil.

The bomb was “identical” to the ones used in Friday’s serial explosions in the city, Bidri said. The area was cordoned off till the bomb experts de-activated the bomb.

An intensive search operation has been launched to track the man. Police are exploring and pursuing all the leads, the Commissioner said.

A special team under Joint Commissioner of Police, Gopal Hosur, is on the job to uncover the plot.

The city witnessed a series of nine explosions on Friday.
