Gaza : Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat condemned Tuesday the Israeli demolition of an apartment building in Jerusalem on Monday, saying the attack aims to displace Palestinians and drive them out of the city.
Erekat told the Voice of Palestine radio station from Washington, where he is holding talks with US and Israeli officials, that the demolition of the building occupied by several Palestinian families is a vary serious escalation against the Palestinian people.
On Monday, Israeli forces demolished a building owned by Palestinian Majed Abu Aisha in Beit Hanina in Jerusalem, amid a deployment of Israeli forces carrying weapons and accompanied by police dogs.
Several Palestinians were injured including the advisor of the Palestinian prime minister for Jerusalem affairs, Hatim Abdulqader.
Meanwhile, Erekat would not agree to call the current talks in the US “conclusive” and commented on statements by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Monday in which he said an Israeli-Palestinian agreement could be reached by the end of 2008 on the refugees and borders, but not the status of Jerusalem.
“This attitude is not acceptable; it is either discussion of all and of final status issues or of nothing,” the official exclaimed.
