Gaza : Israel stated here on Tuesday that its representatives will head to Turkey which is mediating in talks with Syria.
The Israeli radio stated earlier today that this visit is to prepare for the fourth round of the current indirect negotiations with Syria, aiming at agreements on the future of the Golan Heights and a peace agreement between the two sides.
The radio added that the head of the Israeli Prime Minister’s office and a senior political advisor are to define the framework for the sought direct Israeli-Syrian talks.
Israeli political sources told the radio the main disagreements in the current phase of the negotiations are of a security nature, claiming that there is still a good chance of moving to the next phase of direct negotiations with Syria.
Israeli media reports Israeli demands include a stop of Syrian support to the Lebanese Hezbollah Party and Palestinian factions, as well as a stop of its cooperation with Iran if a peace agreement was struck.
The sources expected that the fourth round of the negotiations will take place in Istanbul and last for several days.
Syria had earlier stressed indirect negotiations with Israel come part of efforts to restore the Golan Heights which were occupied by Israel in the June 1967 war.
