Tehran : President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that the security of the Persian Gulf region should be provided by the countries of the region.
Ahmadinejad made the remark in a meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi, held on the sidelines of the 15th NAM foreign ministerial meeting which opened here Tuesday.
Iran and Oman should spare no efforts to help NAM and the PGCC play a more active role in the region, he said.
Iran has adopted a very crystal clear stand in all affairs, he said, adding that the countries of the region should provide the security of the region and help upgrade the current level of economic and cultural cooperation.
Referring to existing good and friendly ties between Tehran and Muscat, he said such ties will prevent aliens from meddling in the internal affairs of Iran and Oman as well as other regional countries.
The Omani foreign minister, for his part, said: “We hope the Western countries will listen to your advice that is to the benefit of all.”
