Surat : Two unexploded bombs were found in the Varacha area of this city in southern Gujarat Tuesday morning, taking to seven the number of such explosives found here since Sunday in the aftermath of the serial bombings in Ahmedabad.
A bomb was found Tuesday morning behind the Labeshwar police post when a provision store owner was opening his shop at about 9 a.m. While he was pushing his shutter up, a bag fell down. He immediately called the police. Varacha police inspector V.B. Patel reached the spot with the bomb disposal and dog squads.
A little later another bomb was found near Baroda bridge in Santoshnagar area, close to a garment shop, Mahavir Fashion. The bomb had been placed inside an electric meter box. Both the bombs were found within a span of one hour.
Another bomb had been found in Labeshwar area late Monday night and was defused. All the bombs had been planted with a radius of 1 km. Four unexploded bombs were defused in the city Sunday and one on Monday. None of the bombs found here in the last three days has exploded.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Gautam Parmar, along with crime branch officials, was present when the bombs were being defused Tuesday.
A high alert has been sounded in Surat.
