Japanese Premier Plans Cabinet Reshuffle

By Prensa Latina,

Tokio : Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, who is facing his lowest levels of popular support, is planning to reshuffle his Cabinet in the next few days.

Fukuda, 72, said he would consult his party after meeting with ministers of Trade and Agriculture when they both return from unfruitful Geneva talks on world trade derregulation, according to Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party Bunmei Ibuki.

Fukuda’s popularity plunged, due to a controversial health care coverage plan with higher prices, meaning a bigger burden on many elders.

He assumed his post in September 2007 and has managed to withstand opposition pressure to dissolve Parliament and call early elections.
