Beijing, China : Iran’s Deputy head of the Relief and Rescue Organization held talks with head of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in East Asia Carl Naucler here on Monday.
At the meeting, Alireza Parand voiced the Islamic Republic readiness for all-out help to the Chinese quake-stricken people.
Referring to the experience of the Islamic Republic in facing natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes, Parand underlined that Iran has a great number of “Rub Hall” tents and has the capability to produce family relief tents.
Naucler, for his part, appreciated the Islamic Republic help in this respect.
A “Rub Hall” is a large tent used primarily as emergency warehousing.
The worst earthquake to hit China in more than 30 years claimed the lives of nearly 50,000 people.
Close to the epicenter, around 80 percent of the buildings are in ruins.
The quake, which measured 7.8, struck around 100 kilometers north of the provincial capital, Chengdu, but tremors were felt as far away as Thailand and Vietnam.
The tremor destroyed at least eight schools, burying hundreds of children. About 900 teenagers were trapped in the rubble of one three- storey building.
