Banga (Punjab) : The Punjab Police have arrested a father for poisoning his daughter to death and passing it off as a case of suicide in a village near here.
Raghubir Singh was arrested Thursday following suspicion that his daughter, Manpreet Kaur, 17, had not committed suicide but was poisoned by him. Banga is located about 110 km from Chandigarh.
Neighbbours told the police that Manpreet’s death could be a case of honour killing as her father was against her wish to get married to a boy in the neighbourhood.
While Singh poisoned his daughter, he moved an application with the police complaining that his daughter was threatening to commit suicide.
“The complaint about the suicide threat was a ploy to save himself. But he has confessed to everything, including murdering his daughter,” Banga police official Lakhbir Singh said.
