Bangalore : Top amateur golfers of the country will vie for the coveted title at LG Eagleton Amateur tournament that starts at the picturesque Eagleton Golf Resort here Monday.
The prestigious event forms the third leg of the 13-legged LG Indian Amateur Golf Tour. India’s No.1 Abhishek Jha leads the star cast which also includes Manav Das, Gagan Verma, Vikram Rana, Simarjeet Singh, H.S. Kang, Tarun Ghogale, Saurva Bahuguna, Jasjeet Singh and Karan Vasudeva amongst others.
Jha, who will be having the home advantage, had won the first leg of the LG Indian Amateur Golf Tour while Rahul Bajaj had clinched the LG Jaypee Open title. Defending champion Anirban Lahiri is now playing the professional Tour in India and Asia.
“The break was just fine. I have been able to iron out my mistakes and I am really looking forward to a win here,” said Abhishek who knows the course at the back of his hand. “I definitely have the home advantage but there are a good bunch of players and I am expecting the competition to go to the hilt,” said the lanky amateur who has just overtaken Manav Das on the LG Order of Merit.
The Eagleton Golf Resort is a testing course with strategically located hazards in the shape of water bodies and bunkers. The key to success will be to just keep the ball in play. Considering the playing field and the course conditions, the golfing buffs of the Garden City are in for a special treat.
