Tokyo : The Group of Eight (G-8) justice and home affairs ministers began full-fledged talks in Tokyo on Thursday to discuss issues such as measures against terrorism and organized crime.
“G-8 countries should share common recognition on the current situation and announce timely counter-measures against international terrorism and transnational organized crime,” Shinya Izumi, the Japanese National Public Safety Commission Chairman, said at the outset of the meeting.
“In particular, it is important to engage in specific calls to countries that require development of basic legal systems and building of law enforcement capacity,” said Izumi, who co-chairs the meeting.
The G-8 groups Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, and the US.
The participants from the eight industrial powers are also expected to address measures against crimes abusing personal information such as credit cards and passports, as well as drug crimes, before releasing a joint statement on Friday.
