New Delhi : Relations between India and Panama are fine, fluid and may be further enhanced, said Panama Senior Vice President and Foreign Minister Samuel Lewis.
“We share views on several matters, both in world politics and in means to deal with challenges to developing countries, assured Lewis who is on his second visit to India.
The vice president attended in New Delhi the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the System of Central American Integration (SICA), which he forecasted will help brace Central American ties with India.
Lewis reminded that Panama and India established diplomatic ties in 1962 and India opened an embassy in 1981 that has since helped lead excellent and fluid bilateral ties.
The visitor also termed positive and legitimate India’s hope to become non permanent member of the UN Security Council from 2010-2011 and reaffirmed Panama’s support.
Lewis, on behalf of Panama, termed urgent the need to reform the UN, not just the Security Council, but the entire system and adjust it to the 21st century realities.
Panama’s head diplomat also termed positive to hold a meeting here to enhance cooperation between the region and India.
He added that the political accord they signed in 2004 covered for education, technical and professional training while India helped open computer training institutes in Central America.
India and Panama shared common stands at international forums like the Round of Doha and the current world food crisis.
