US Raid Kills 40 Afghan Civilians

By Prensa Latina,

Kabul : A US air strike on a town of Paktika province killed about 40 Afghan civilians and destroyed several houses, a leader of that south-western zone denounced Wednesday.

That massacre was confirmed by a representative of the Paktika tribal council, who told press in a phone call that several women and children were victims of the US air attack.

The Pentagon command alleges nearly 30 Afghan rebels and only four civilians died during the operation supported by the Musakhan aviation.

Tens of thousands of Afghan civilians have been killed by so-called mistakes and friendly fire, within the euphemistic “collateral damage,” since United States and its allies invaded and occupied this Islamic central Asian country in October 2001.

Those indiscriminate attacks on the Afghan civil population due to US operations increase uneasiness among suffering inhabitants and rejection against foreign invaders.

About 1,300 people, most of them civilians, have been killed in Afghanistan in these six months of 2008.
