Caracas : There is a widespread support for the five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters unfairly held in US prisons, with people worldwide rejecting a ruling by an Atlanta Appellate Court on June 4 ratifying their convictions.
In a statement, the Venezuelan group in PARLATINO (the Latin American Parliament says that the Atlanta court ruling against Rene Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Fernando Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero again disregards their right to be judged fairly in a non-hostile atmosphere.
These men were detained in the US on September 1998 while monitoring criminal actions by Florida-based anti-Cuban groups. His sentences range between 15 years to double life plus 15 years in prison.
The text, read in a press conference by Vice President of Parlatino, Carolus Wimmer, also decries “the cynical US justice, which is forging a true conspiracy to pardon international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles.”
Meanwhile, the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation called on all peace loving people to step up their demand for the release of The Five and their rejection of the Atlanta court ruling against them.
A communiqué, addressed to members of the Council, the Government, institutions, Parliament and the media, says that it has been proved that this a politically motivated trial against Cuba and its Revolution.
