A Gallup poll indicates that the Illinois senator was backed by 51 percent of women, while Republican presidential candidate John McCain barely got 38 percent.

Comparing these figures with a previous survey, the Afro-American politician expanded his lead from 5 percentage points to 13.

A Rasmussen Reports survey showed similar results (52 percent of women favoring Obama and 39 percent for McCain).

Experts were surprised. According to forecasts, McCain was expected to lead among women who once backed Hillary Clinton and said they would never vote for Obama.

Today the Democratic candidate launched a website to counteract rumors against him, mainly regarding patriotism, religion and race.
