Godda (Jharkhand): In a good move to provide schools having Urdu students but no teacher of the subject, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Godda, Abubakar Siddique, recently transferred several Urdu teachers to those schools.
These teachers have been transferred from the schools which have no Urdu students to the schools in which Urdu students are in large number but they were not studying the subject due to unavailability of teachers of the subject.
However, this good decision has not gone down well with the teachers transferred. Even though they have been appointed as Urdu teachers but are not willing to serve the purpose for which they are paid. Often communal forces are blamed, and rightly so, for conspiring against Muslim interests, be it Urdu or other matters. But what would you call the opposition of the Urdu teachers to the decision of the DC.
In the first step, their appointment at the schools with no Urdu students was wrong and apparently was part of larger conspiracy against Urdu. But now when they are being shifted by a person whose first language is Malyalam to those schools with Urdu students, he is being opposed.
Majority of the people, however, have appreciated the move of the DC and hoped that the students who were unable to read their mother language now can read it in a better way and it will be promoted in young generation, a considerable portion of which have not learnt the language.
The decision Abubakar has taken, despite having Malyalam as his mother language, seeing the pitiable condition of Urdu language in the state, is no doubt a proof of his love and affection for Urdu. It is a good service for the language.
General Muslims have expressed their anger on the Urdu teachers’ approach to the DC’s decision and asked them to come forward for the sake of the community and the language. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the education department has relieved all the transferred teachers.
