Amritsar : The central revenue department Wednesday transferred six officials from the Attari border post at India-Pakistan border after a Bangladeshi hid himself in a truck loaded with onions and crossed over into Pakistan from here.
Those transferred include an assistant commissioner, two superintendents and three constables of the customs department.
Bangladeshi national Abu Tahir had hid himself in a truck loaded with onions and going from India to Pakistan June 3. He was nabbed by Pakistan Rangers on their side of the Wagah border.
His return, past midnight, by the Pakistan border guards was an embarrassment for Indian Border Security Force (BSF) officials as the rangers levelled insinuations against the Indians for allowing human smuggling.
Tahir, 25, is in police custody and has been interrogated by security agencies. He claimed he wanted to go to Pakistan for a better life and meet his relatives.
The customs department has ordered a probe into the incident. Customs officials are supposed to physically check all goods trucks before these are allowed to go some distance into Pakistan for off-loading.
India and Pakistan had allowed restricted movement of trucks, one kilometre into each other’s territory, to increase trade between both countries from Oct 1 last year.
