Malegaon: There are some commonalities between the social and economic problems of Malegaon and Bhiwandi, particularly the situation of women, said Mahmudurrahman, chairperson of the surveying committee of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM).
Speaking to mediapersons during the two day visit of Malegaon city he pointed out that it is a very difficult task to analyze the situations of Muslims in Maharashtra in the short span of one and half month. Notwithstanding, best efforts will be invested in this work and at the end of this month, the report will be submitted to the government, so that the recommendations of the report be implemented.
Talking about the initial part of the report he said that it recommends the establishment of vocational institutes and coaching centers for the preparation of competitive exams like IAS and IIT. The recommendation includes some measures to encourage the economic and business activities in the city.
Mahmudurrahman met with the representatives of various social organizations and power loom unions.
The general secretary of the Power Loom Action Committee, Abdul Aziz Maqadim, told the Committee that the increase in the rates of electricity has affected the weavers badly. He further pointed out that because of the indifferent attitude of the government and the policy makers the business of the local weavers has declined.
Ruling members of the Malegaon Municipal Corporation presented their own view about the situation in Malegaon. They told the survey committee that Malegaon Municipal Corporation is a D class corporation which should not be compared to the municipal corporation of other cities, because the income of the corporation is much less than its expenditure.
The president of the Third Front pointed out to the survey committee that Malegaon is communally very sensitive. He demanded that officers with a secular mentality should be appointed here.
