Suspect in girl’s rape, murder to undergo forensic tests

Hyderabad : The prime suspect in the rape and murder of a 19-year-old girl student in Andhra Pradesh will be brought here for various forensic tests.

A court in Vijayawada Monday granted the police five-day custody of Gurvinder Singh alias Laddu. A police team brought him from Rajhamundry jail to the Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory for DNA, handwriting and other tests. He is also likely to be taken to Bangalore for narco-analysis test.

Ayesha, a first-year student of B. Pharmacy, was raped and brutally murdered on the night of Dec 27 in her room at Sri Durga ladies hostel at Ibrahimpatnam in Vijayawada.

A letter, dropped by the murderer near the body, stated that the girl was raped and murdered for refusing his request for “love”.

Laddu, who is also suspected to be involved in the murder of two women in November last year, was arrested early this month from Visakhapatnam.

The case has baffled the police here as the victim’s room was found to be locked from inside and there were no signs of forced entry.

Unable to make any progress in identifying the culprits, the police Saturday said they were also planning to subject three girl students to narco tests. These students were staying in rooms adjacent to Ayesha’s room.

Despite interrogation of more than 50 people and subjecting some of them to polygraph and DNA tests, the police have failed to crack the case.

Making an unique offer, the government announced a reward of half a million rupees to the person providing information leading to the arrest of the killer and also promised to appoint him as a sub-inspector in the police, provided he meets certain conditions.
