New Delhi: The Planning Commission has constituted an autonomous Assessment and Monitoring Authority (AMA) to evaluate the extent of development benefits accruing to different socio-religious communities (SRCs) through various programmes.

The AMA will visit different places to get first hand information about conditions of minorities and to give directions to concerned central ministries/departments, state governments, union territory administrations to implement the programmes in the light of the Sachar Committee Report.

This information was given to the Lok Sabha by Minority Affairs Minister A.R. Antulay in reply to a written question about the constitution of AMA.

To another question whether the Government proposes to have the concept of a sub-plan for the Muslim community to ensure their development on the lines of the sub-plan for the scheduled tribes, the Minister told the Lok Sabha that the report of the Working Group on empowerment of the minorities suggested various schemes including creation of a separate Minority Sub-Plan for the 11th Five Year Plan. The Planning Commission has advised that the issue requires wider consultation.
