Islamabad : Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf Thursday summoned the National Assembly (parliament) March 24 to elect the country’s prime minister, presidential spokesman Rashid Qureshi said.
The session will be convened next Monday to elect the leader of the house, Qureshi said in a statement, according to DAWN NEWS TV channel.
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which is the largest single group in the house, is yet to announce its candidate for the prime minister.
PPP general secretary Jahangir Badar said that assassinated former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in his capacity as party chairman would make the announcement of the prime ministerial nominee before the session begins, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
With the support of its coalition partners, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), PPP is expected to get its prime ministerial candidate elected to the post during the session.
