Uttar Pradesh steps up security for Friday

Lucknow : Security forces have been deployed in communally sensitive places in Uttar Pradesh to maintain peace Friday when four religious communities will observe holidays.

Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Parsis and Iranis will mark Chhoti Holi, Eid-e-Milad, Good Friday and Navroz that day.

Chief Minister Mayawati has sounded a state-wide alert and asked district magistrates and superintendents of police to ensure peace at all costs.

Paramilitary forces have been deployed in all sensitive places, an officer said.Flag marches have been carried in “sensitive localities to keep mischief mongers under check”, he said.

Policemen are keeping a watch on trains and railway stations.

Heavy police deployment was visible in large parts of Old Lucknow. “As many as 45 officers of the rank of additional and deputy superintendents of police, 36 inspectors, 245 sub-inspectors, 1,300 constables and as many Home Guards have been detailed for round the clock patrolling,” Senior Superintendent of Police Akhil Kumar told IANS.
