Islamabad : Pakistan’s new parliament Speaker Fahmida Mirza has condemned the March 14 riots in Lhasa and expressed opposition to any attempts to politicise the Beijing Olympic Games.
Mirza, newly elected speaker of the National Assembly, the country’s lower house of parliament, said at a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Luo Zhaohui that the Pakistani parliament fully supported the measures China has taken to maintain national unity and social stability.
Pakistan’s National Assembly opposes “Tibet independence” and “Taiwan independence”, Mirza said.
Lhasa is returning to normal after the riots, believed to have been organised by the Dalai clique.
The riots led to the deaths of at least 18 civilians and one police officer. It also left 382 civilians and 241 police officers injured, with businesses looted, and residences, shops and vehicles burned.
