By NNN-SANA

Damascus : Arab Foreign Ministers have renewed commitment to the Arab peace initiative as a basis to seek a just and comprehensive solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict on all tracks according to Madrid peace reference and the UN resolutions 242 and 338 and the land-for-peace formula.

The Arab ministers held a preliminary meeting Thursday ahead of the Arab summit in which they adopted the agenda of Saturday’s Summit including draft resolutions submitted by a meeting of the permanent envoys to the Arab ministers’ meeting.

They adopted a draft resolution on the Palestinian issue, the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Arab peace initiative, stressing commitment to the just and comprehensive peace as a strategic option.

“The peace process is comprehensive and can’t be divided … the peace won’t be achieved without the Israeli full withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian and Arab lands including the Syrian Golan and the Lebanese remaining lands in the south into the line of June 4, 1967,” according to the draft resolution.

It called for reaching a fair solution to the problem of the Palestinian refugees according to UN resolution 194 and establishing a Palestinian independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

On the occupied Syrian Golan, the Arab ministers underlined the Arab countries’ support to Syria’s fair demand and its right to restore the occupied Golan till the line of June 4, 1967.

As for the US unilateral sanctions on Syria, the Arab ministers announced their rejection of the so-called Syria Accountability Act, considering it as a violation of international law and UN resolutions and charter.

They called the US administration to conduct a constructive dialogue with Syria to find best means to settle pending issues which obstruct the improvement of relations between both countries.

Regarding Iraq, the Arab foreign ministers underlined the need to respect the unity and territorial integrity of Iraq as well as its Arab and Islamic identity, rejecting attempts to divide it and calling for non-intervention of its internal affairs.

On Lebanon, the Arab ministers reiterated the Arab initiative to solve the Lebanese crisis and supporting efforts of the Arab League secretary-general in this domain.

Flowing the meeting, Foreign Minister Walid Al-Moallem said “the solution of the Lebanese crisis is first the responsibility of the Lebanese and second the responsibility of the Arab countries which have special ties with Lebanon and could encourage the Lebanese sides to conduct dialogue, understanding and consensus based on the principle no-winner, no-loser.”

Al-Moallem held a joint press conference with Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa following the final meeting of Arab foreign ministers ahead of the Arab Summit.

Moussa announced that the Arab foreign ministers showed support for the Arab initiative to solve the Lebanese crisis and instructed the Arab League to pursue this issue.

“The Arab foreign ministers approved a draft resolution on the initiative, showing support to it , and charging the Arab League secretary-general to exerting efforts in this domain,” Moussa said.

He declared that he wouldl visit Beirut soon, saying “there is one initiative that enjoys big support and we have to go on in this way which could lead to rescue Lebanon.”

Moussa also announced that the Arab ministers underlined commitment to the Arab peace initiative based on UN relevant resolutions and the land-for-peace initiative.

“There was very calm discussion, respectful and cordial during the ministerial meetings,” Moussa said.
