Eight Taliban militants killed in Afghanistan

Kabul : Two soldiers of the US-led coalition troops have been killed in a roadside bomb attack in southern Afghanistan while at least eight Taliban militants were eliminated by Afghan and foreign troops in a firefight. The coalition soldiers were killed in southern Afghanistan, said NATO officials, who did not mention their names and nationalities for policy reasons. Separately, at least eight Taliban militants were killed by Afghan and foreign troops as the former attacked a supply convoy in southern Afghanistan, officials said on Sunday. Faridullah Khan, deputy chief of police in Zabul province, where the militants were killed, told journalists the clash erupted when the insurgents ambushed a supply convoy in the province. A search operation was launched and the clash with militants resulted in killing of eight Taliban rebels, said the police officer. He said police, Afghan army as well as NATO troops took part in the fighting.

Meanwhile, local official was gunned down by armed motorcyclists in the southern province of Kandahar on Sunday. The slain was member of a district assembly. Local police said Taliban were responsible for his killing as the militants are despising all those working on government posts or cooperating with the Afghan government and foreign troops to bring peace and stability to the war-battered country.
