International Islamic body condemns offensive ‘Fitna’ film

By NNN-KUNA

Riyadh : The Secretariat of the International Islamic Fiqh (Jurisprudence) Academy, offshoot of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Sunday condemned the content and broadcast of a film produced by an extremist Dane which slanders Islam as a faith and shows Muslims and the Prophet Mohammad to be terrorists.

The secretariat condemned the film entitled “Fitna,” which it considered an undisguised attempt to provoke Muslims worldwide and exposes deep hatred and attempts to stir confrontations and drag Muslims into conflict through provocation.

Any dialog between and among cultures and faiths is futile if such extremists are allowed to abort all efforts and cloud the atmosphere with their spite, thus giving room for violence and terrorism.

The secretariat demanded politicians and men of religion in the west take a clear and strict stance towards extremism against Islam and Muslims which was aggravated repeatedly over the past few years and recalled the incident of the slanderous cartoons depicting the Muslim’s last prophet as an act of ultimate religious extremism.

The secretariat praised the voices of reason which sought to stem the consequences feared after this film’s broadcast and condemned the act both in Holland and elsewhere around the world, and urged all to address this issue with rationalism and caution.

The film was produced by far-right lawmaker Geert Wilders.

Among those who condemned the film was United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon who called it “offensively anti-Islamic.” “There is no justification for hate speech or incitement to violence. The right of free speech is not at stake here,” he said in a statement.

Wilders, head of the Freedom Party, who considers the Muslims’ holy book fascist, has called for the Koran to be banned in the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, the media is reporting that Dutch businesses are saying they would sue the far-right MP if his production leads to a boycott of Danish products by Muslim nations and communities.
