India for Alternative Sources of Renewable Energy

New Delhi : The India New and Renewable Energy Ministry deployed nine solar power plant in six states of the country, in the fiscal year 2007-2008, three of them in Maharashtra.

Two of plants started operations in Jammu-Cachemira while one of those facilities was built in Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Bengala and Orissa states.

A ministerial communiqué noted that the generation capacity of those solar plants with photovoltaic cells reach about 2,000 kWp.

The Indian government is installing photovoltaic generators in different parts of this huge country, the second most populated of the world with nearly 1.2 billion of inhabitants, including remote settlements in its electrification program.

The central authority allocated 10 million dollars to rebuild other four solar power generators by 2008-09.

At this moment, the New and Renewable Energy Ministry is also promoting the use solar heater for the house, even at subsidize prices and options to pay.

In addition, the Rural and Agricultural Development Ministry encourage growing Pongamia a non edible plant which seed has a high-oleaginous content for producing biofuel.

The Indian authorities have moved forward to develop and promote the use of alternative fuels like ethanol, biofuel and hydrogen in transportation.
