M7.5 quake hits Southwest China”s Sichuan

Tokyo : An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.5 jolted Southwest China’s Sichuan Province on Monday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. The USGS has earlier measured the size of the quake at magnitude of 7.8.

The quake hit 90 kilometers northwest of the Sichhuan provincial capital of Chengdu, or 15,45 km southwest of Beijing, at 2:28 p.m. (0628 GMT), according to USGS’s Website. The quake was centered 10 km below the surface.

In a broadcast monitored in Kuwait, the Chinese news agency (Xinua) reported that the epicenter of the quake was located 31.0 degrees north latitude and 103.4 degrees east longitude.

The quake was also felt in Beijing, and Xinhua reporters in Zhengzhou, Chengdu and Chongqing reported tremors. No casualty was reported yet.
