Gaza : Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak affirmed Thursday that the security situation in southern Israel could not go on, saying that the launching of Palestinian rockets from Gaza would not continue for long.
He told the press in Ashkelon city, “We will not allow this situation to continue; we will do everything needed to make sure it doesn’t.” A shopping mall in the city was targeted by a rocket Wednesday, leaving more than 30 people wounded.
Salahuddin Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, claimed responsibility for the attack.
Barak, addressing residents of Ashkelon, said that “a solution must be found to the rocket fire on Ashkelon. We can hold on for a little while longer, but it cannot go on like this.” Barak toured the attack site with his deputy, Major General Yair Golan.
Meanwhile a spokesman for the Israeli army said that a Palestinian missile was launched from northern Gaza today but the attack did not result in any casualties or damages.
