Five of the slain were policemen and seven were civilians, said Interior Ministry’s spokesman Zmaray Bashari.

He said the blast took place in Dilaram district of the western Farah province this morning.

Local officials said the target of the attack was a police vehicle in a market area. They said 20 more people, most of them police personnel, were injured in the explosion.

Taliban militants, who usually claim responsibility for such attacks, have not so far issued a comment.
