Australia provides 462 mln USD aid for Indonesia

Jakarta : Australia has agreed to provide 462 million U.S. dollars to help Indonesia develop its infrastructure, education, health and good governance, local daily Bisnis Indonesia reported Saturday.

The assistance is in the forms of 336-million-U.S. dollar grant and 126-million-U.S. dollar soft loan. The money will be used for the fiscal year of 2008 and 2009.

“The funds are the biggest bilateral assistance from Australia to Indonesia for development and we are still the country with the largest grant to Indonesia,” Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Bill Falmer said.

The ambassador said that some of the funds would be used to build bridges and roads in the eastern part of Indonesia.
