Dhaka : Bangladesh’s Home Ministry is going to introduce some new rules for hotel guests that will make it mandatory for them to provide 24-personal information before checking in, a senior official said Wednesday.
The senior official of the Bangladesh Home Ministry said the country is going to introduce the rules to curb increasing criminal incidents in the country.
He said many local and foreign criminals, particularly robbers use hotel as a base for their operations.
“We are holding a meeting Thursday to fix up the date when the new rules will come into force,” the Chinese news agency XINHUA reported Wednesday quoting the official as saying.
Once fully implemented, under the new rules hotel guests will have to write down their name, parents’ names, permanent address, mobile and land phone numbers, passport number, national identity card and voter identity card numbers (if any), driving license and professional ID numbers (if any).
Apart from this, hotel authorities have been instructed to verify whether the mobile and land phone number supplied by a guest is genuine.
Some hotel owners said this new move would create hassles for both hotel employees and their guests.
But some agreed with the move.
“Yes, it may be a source of hassle for many in the beginning but in time it will become a regular practice and a lot of people will be thankful for it,” a spokesperson of Sheraton Hotel, a five- star hotel in capital Dhaka, said.
