Srinagar : Hosts Jammu and Kashmir won their second preliminary round Santosh Trophy championship match against Daman and Diu by four goals to nil at Bakshi Stadium here Tuesday.
In another match played at the Polo ground here, Himachal Pradesh beat Puducherry by three goals to two in a tight finish and in the third match Meghalaya beat Uttarakhand by three goals to one.
Jammu and Kashmir, wearing blue and white jerseys, defended Iqbal Ground goal post at the beginning while Daman took charge of Amar Singh College end even as the hosts showed their dominance throughout the match.
Missing at least four chances in the first half, the host team looked over-confident in attacking the losers.
It was centre-forward Bilal who scored the first goal in 42nd minute of the game and after the 45-minute-half Taufeeq, Zubair and Riwan respectively struck in the 78th, 84th and 86th minutes of the match.
Rizwan’s left footer was the goal of the match when he penetrated deep into the goal area and made a beautiful punch in to the nets.
The first match at Polo ground witnessed Himachal on a winning note beating Puducherry after a goal-less first half.
For Himachal, Vivek Sharma opened the scoring tray in the 24th minute and Ajay Rana struck twice in 43rd and 48th minutes of the second half.
Jaya Selvan and Karunanidhi scored for Puducherry in the 30th and 35th minute of the half.
In the second match played at Polo-ground today, Meghalaya beat Uttrakhand by three goals to one in a tight clash.
Bans Raj scored twice in the early 3rd minute and 43rd minute of the first half. Murli Kumar added to the tally in the 28th minute while three minutes later Nitin Kumar from Uttarakhand struck back.
At Maulana Azad Stadium in winter capital Jammu, Services beat Nagaland in a one-sided affair by eight goals to nil.
Leading by three goals at the half time, Services scored five more after the interval as Alby Victous scored twice in the 63rd and 81st minute.
Tuesday’s second match at Jammu Science College ended in favour of Manipur as they beat Orissa by seven goals to two.
According to a press release issued by the Jammu and Kashmir football association, all the Santosh Trophy cluster matches scheduled to be played at the Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar from Wednesday be played at the Kashmir University grounds. This has been done keeping in view the condition of the field at the Bakshi Stadium.
“If we continue with the cluster matches at the Bakshi Stadium, then it might not be possible to play the quarter finals, semi finals and the final matches at this venue,” an official of the association told IANS here Tuesday.
