By KUNA,
Islamabad : The coalition government leaders Tuesday met here to exchange views on the constitutional package aimed at clipping the Presidents powers and transferring them to the Prime Minister.
Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Nawaz Sharif, the leader of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), met for more than two hours here.
Official sources told KUNA that Asif Ali Zardari shared details of the proposed constitutional package with Nawaz Sharif and also held discussions on the Judges reinstatement issue.
Sources said that Nawaz Sharif has given his consent to the proposed constitutional amendment that will transfer powers of the President to appoint provincial governors, judges and other officials to the Prime Minister. However, they added, differences over the judges reinstatement issues remained persistent with none of the sides ready to budge from their stances. It may be mentioned here that PML-N is demanding restoration of all judges including former Chief Justice, Iftikhar Chauhdary, whereas, PPP is in favour of all judges restoration minus Iftikhar.
Later, briefing newsmen Ahsan Iqbal, the PML-N leader said that the talks were a routine matters as the party has pulled out ministers from the cabinet but not quit the government.
He said the constitutional package details were shared with Nawaz Sharif, adding that the party will comment on the package only after the final draft is presented to the party leadership.
Political crisis are still looming over Islamabad months after installation of new civilian government. Differences over the reinstatement of judges, deposed by President Musharraf last year during his emergency rule, led to PML-N quitting from the federal cabinet.
This was the first meeting between the parties leadership after conciliation talks held in Dubai earlier this month. PML-N had quit the Federal cabinet after it failed to resolve differences over the Judges issue. The talks have come amid PPP has openly asked the President to voluntarily quit the government or face impeachment.
