India conducts survey for right over N.eastern state of Sikkim

New Delhi : India Tuesday stated that it was conducting a survey to confirm its right over the entire territory in its Northeastern state of Sikkim following Chinas claim over an area in the state. “We are carrying out the survey to confirm Indias position,” Army Chief Gen Deepak Kapoor told reporters here today on the sidelines of a function. The area is known as Finger Point and is located in north Sikkim, bordering China. The government has directed the Survey of India to conduct a survey of the area using latest methods to validate India’s position. China also claims 2.1 square km area which is referred as Finger Area. “Within our territory, we can do survey and patrolling as we have been doing it for years,” Gen Kapoor China. China also claims the entire state of Arunachal Pradesh in Northeast India. New Delhi has refuted such claims. Beijing is also illegally occupying an area in Jammu and Kashmir called Aksai Chin.
