BJP, Congress against reservation to Dalit Muslims: Muslim Morcha

By TwoCircles.net staff reporter,

New Delhi: All India United Muslim Morcha (AIUMM) has accused both Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress Party of opposing reservation to Dalit Muslims by amending Article 341 of the Constitution of India.

The BJP opposes it openly while the Congress is doing so clandestinely whereas Ranga Nath Mishra Commission, Sachar Committee, National Commission for Minorities and National Scheduled Caste Commission have supported reservation to Dalit Muslims, said national spokesman of AIUMM Kamal Ashraf in a press statement on 27th May. All constituent parties of UPA minus Congress and that of NDA minus BJP besides left parties are in favour of reservation to Dalit Muslims, though these parties have not made any worthwhile effort at their level in this direction, said Ashraf. The Morcha warned that political parties in power will have to suffer if Dalit Muslim reservation bill is not placed in the next session of the Parliament.

Ashraf also informed that the Morcha has unanimously dismissed Dr. Ejaz Ali, Rajya Sabha Member from Janata Dal (U), from the post of Morcha president and nominated Lucknow’s Dr. Mahfooz Ali Siddiqui as new president. The new AIUMM team includes Dr. Mahfooz Ali Siddiqui (national president) and Kamal Ashraf (senior vice-president). Mohammad Waseem Siddiqui and Ghulam Sarwar Azad have been appointed as state presidents of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar respectively.

Earlier on 19th May, in a surprising move, Dr. Ejaz Ali had announced to dissolve AIUMM and all the associated organizations. Talking to TwoCircles.net (TCN) in Patna, Dr. Ali had said the dissolution was a normal process for the growth of the organization and it was a necessary step to prepare for the next stage of his movement. However, his decision did not go down with other leaders of the organization. Morcha leader Kamal Ashraf, its general secretary Reyazuddin and state president Ghulam Sarwar Azad had criticized the step by Dr. Ali, saying this was unconstitutional as he failed to consult any member. They said this movement was not a personal fiefdom of Dr. Ejaz Ali.
