Alwar : Rajasthan Government propose to make Muslim girls literate by spending Rs. 55 for each girl.
Home to a number of Muslims who have no or limited access to education, Mewat is targeted by Sarwa Shikhsha Abhiyan (SSA) for spending about Rs. 9.5 lakhs earmarked for Muslim girls education.
This is the first time that SSA is going to target Muslim girls of Rajasthan. SSA is the Indian flagship campaign to have universal elementary education by 2010.
The authorities have estimated that there are 17,200 Muslim girls in this district and allocation of Rs. 952,000 makes it little more than Rs. 55 per girl.
Allocated money is already budgeted to be spent on:
Teaching Learning Material: Rs. 860,000
Awarness: Rs. 12,000
Teachers workshop: Rs. 70,000
Education travels: Rs. 10,000
Alwar is recognized as on the Special Focus Districts by the SSA for targeting minorities. Considering that proportion of out of school children is the highest in the Muslim community, the amount allocated by the Rajasthan Government is not sufficient.
