Beirut : Lebanese President elect Michel Suleiman began on Wednesday a plebiscite of parliamentary bloc leaders to define nomination of the new prime minister.
The forces that shape the parliamentary majority reaffirmed during the interviews their support to the current Head of Government Fuad Siniora, according to official sources.
Meanwhile, the opposition was in general against Sniora’s reelection, because they consider him responsible for the political crisis that has shaken Lebanon for over a year.
Christian leader Michel Aoun said to disagree with that proposal and considered it as a declaration of war, but asserted that his followers would accept the final decision.
Saad Hariri, the other candidate to the post and leader of the parliamentary majority, said Sniora’s designation is not a challenge.
Meanwhile, God’s Party (Hizballa) and the other Shiite movement, Amal, to which Parliament President Nabih Berri belongs, did not present any proposal for the post.
