Spokesman: Security arrangement for Musharraf not changed

By Xinhua,

Islamabad : Pakistani military spokesman Major General Athar Abbas said on Thursday that the security arrangement for President Pervez Musharraf has not changed.

Local media reported that Musharraf held an “extremely important meeting” with army chief Ashfaq Parvez Kayani late on Wednesday, and the commando unit deployed for Musharraf’s security was also changed.

“No commando, no personal guards were changed,” Athar Abbas told Xinhua at a U.N. peace-keeping mission seminar held in Islamabad.

Abbas said the meeting between Musharraf and Kayani on Wednesday was a “routine meeting”.

Musharraf has been under pressure as former prime minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday that Pakistan’s ruling coalition has agreed to oust Musharraf from power.

But a Pakistani presidential spokesman on Wednesday dismissed rumors on President Pervez Musharraf’s resignation, saying the rumors are “unsubstantiated”.

“President Musharraf is not resigning,” presidential spokesman Rashid Qureishi told private Dawn TV channel.

“President Musharraf has been very supportive of the government,” he said.
