Beirut : The Lebanese opposition made it clear it was not satisfied with Fouad Seniora remaining as prime minister, thus internal and regional political confrontations could resume, As-Safir daily reported Thursday.

Christian opposition leader MP Michel Aoun was quoted as saying that the nomination of Seniora is a hint to “conflict rather than reconciliation.”

“The ruling coalition seems to be seeking a new conflict rather than a new Lebanon,” he said, adding that the opposition is determined to take part in the government “without offering our support to Prime Minister Seniora.”

Following consultations by the president with members of parliament who gave 68 votes to Seniora out of 127, President Michel Suleiman on Wednesday designated Seniora to form the national unity government in accordance with the agreement reached in Doha on May 21.

Doha deal resulted in the election of consensus president Michel Suleiman Sunday. The second phase of the deal is the formation of a national unity government with veto power to the opposition.
