Pakistan Issues Cyberterrorism Law

By Prensa Latina,

Islamabad : Pakistan issued a law to severely punish anyone who commits a crime against national security using a computer or any other electronic gadget.

According to the government’s law, quoted by the state news agency APP, anyone who commits an act of cyberterrorism resulting in the loss of human lives will be sentenced to death or life imprisonment.

The law, which is applicable to both Pakistani and foreign citizens living in the country or abroad, establishes other punishments for misdemeanors such as electronic fraud, forgery, damage to electronic systems or illegal access to computer networks.

Cyberterrorism is defined as accessing a computer network or electronic system with the goal of “trying to carry out terrorist acts.”

The law lists a series of terrorist acts, including attempting to steal, copy or spread classified information needed to make any kind of nuclear, biological or chemical bomb.
