Kabul : The U.S. military said one U.S. soldier died of wounds from an insurgent bomb attack on a U.S. military convoy in eastern Afghanistan’s Nangahar province Thursday.
The U.S. forces headquarters in Afghanistan while reached by Xinhua over phone said multiple civilian injuries also occurred in the attack, offering no more information.
It was a suicide blast near the provincial capital city Jalalabad, according to local officials.
There has been no immediate responsibility claim. Militant attack on U.S.-led foreign troops has been on the rise in the restive eastern Afghan provinces since early this year.
This came a day after a Taliban suicide car bombing on government buildings in southern city of Kandahar Wednesday noon killed six people and injured 42 others.
Around 33,000 U.S. troops are fighting an increasing Taliban-led insurgency across Afghanistan and the U.S. military deaths here has climbed to as high as over 250 so far this year.
