Kolkata : An alert has been issued in northern West Bengal following information that trains arriving from Guwahati could be targeted by terrorists.
Dislclosing this, the state’s Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia told IANS that superintendents of police of all the six north West Bengal districts have been alerted.
“Security has been stepped up at all the railway stations,” Kanojia said.
Asked whether the state police were acting on any intelligence report, Kanojia said: “It’s very general information that we have received.”
Security was alrady high in the northern districts in view of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s two-day visit to Malda that began Saturday.
