Bomb blast at Pakistan mosque injures custodian, 6 others: police

Peshawar : A bomb blast at a Shiite Muslims mosque injured its custodian and six other people in Pakistan’s northwest on Monday, police said.

Police chief Malik Naveed said the bomb exploded inside the ‘imam bargah’ at Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province in the evening.

He said the blast caused damage to the building of the mosque.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The police chief said that six persons were injured but witnesses and doctors said that 7 persons, including custodian of the mosque, Kamal Shah, and a woman, were injured.

The blast at Hashtnagri neighbourhood also smashed windows of the nearby buildings.

The police chief said that few persons were inside the mosque at the time of the blast.

Naveed said that security was tightened in the city after the blast.

At least 10 people were killed and several injured in a bomb attack on a funeral procession of mourners of a slain youth in the city of dera Ismail Khan few days ago.
