Pakistan: PM announces dissolvement of NSC

Lahore : Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Friday announced to dissolve National Security Council (NSC) constituted by Musharraf’s government.

“ I have met with President Asif Ali Zardari and it is decided to dissolve the NSC formed in the regime of former President Gen.(Retd) Pervez Musharraf,” he said while talking to newsmen at Lahore Airport after his arrival from Islamabad.

He said that the government believes in strengthen institutions instead of individual so it was decided to end the National Security Council.

He said that the government wants to make the national institutions effective.

The Prime Minister said that former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif in his tenure of government had also opposed the formation of National Security Council (NSC).

Responding to a question, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan herself is a victim of terrorism and Afghan, Uzbek, Arabs and local Taliban were committing terrorists activities in Pakistan.

He said Pakistan was not involved in terrorist activities being carried out in India and added, “Pakistan has nothing to do with incidents as we are fighting as a front line (state) in the war against terror.”

“We do not believe in blame game, we want to resolve the issue instead of instigating it”, he added.

Sharing India’s sorrow over loss of life in the Mumbai attacks, Gilani urged the Indian government to jointly combat agianst the menace of terrorism in the region.

“President Asif Ali Zardari and I telephoned Indian Prime minister and offered them all kind of cooperation to check terrorism in the region,” he added.

To another question, he said that Pakistan Army is one of the best armies of the world and is capable and perfect to fight against any challenge facing the country.

“We are just sharing intelligence with Indian government and visit of ISI chief to India is a part of this,” he added.

He said both the countries were facing poverty, unemployment and hunger issues and there was a need for collective efforts to combat these issues.

To a question about US attacks on Pakistan area, the PM said that US government was in transition phase and all the issues would be settled with the new US government.

The premier said that the federal cabinet discusses all issues including any emergency situation in the country in its meetings.
